Katsuo-ji is a temple of the Koyasan Shingon Sect with a 1300-year history. It is famous as a temple where many daruma dolls fill the temple grounds, attracting many worshippers from all over Japan. The temple is also a place of great seasonal beauty, with autumn leaves in fall and snow in the cold winter months.
The temple is believed to be a “temple that wins in all aspects of life”, including examinations, warding off bad luck, illness, and sports, and the many daruma dolls are dedicated by people whose wishes have been fulfilled. The unique omikuji (fortune) inside the daruma is also popular.
