What is Mt. Rokko?

The Rokko Mountain Range is located in the southeastern part of Hyogo Prefecture and spans large and small cities such as Kobe, Ashiya, Nishinomiya, and Takarazuka. The Rokko Mountains are narrow from north to south and extend several tens of kilometers from east to west to the north of the city center.

The highest peak in the Rokko mountain range is Mt.Rokko.

Although located in the suburbs of an urban area, the area is rich in nature, and its greatest attraction is that visitors can experience sightseeing by taking advantage of the natural environment.

It is one of Kobe’s representative sightseeing areas, as visitors can easily enjoy a variety of activities throughout the four seasons.

 

Mt.Rokko is conveniently accessible from both Umeda, Osaka and Sannomiya, Kobe. Please refer to the following information for your visit!

①Take the Hanshin or Hankyu train from Osaka-Umeda or Kobe-Sannomiya.

②Get off at Mikage Station on the Hanshin Main Line or Rokko Station on the Hankyu Kobe Line.

③Take Kobe City Bus No. 16 bound for Rokko Cable-shita and get off at the last stop.

④Ride the Rokko Cable Car. Arrive at the summit in about 10 minutes.

Enjoy the night view

Mt.Rokko is one of the most famous night view spots in Japan, also known as the “10 Million Dollar Nights view”.

From the Tenran-dai (viewing platform) located immediately after getting off at the Rokko Cable Car Sanjo Station, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view that stretches from the Osaka Plain to Kansai International Airport and Wakayama area.

Rokko Garden Terrace has four viewing spots (Rokko-Shidare Observatory, Lookout Tower, Lookout Terrace, and Lookout Deck).

The Rokko-Shidare Observatory, the highest observation deck, is especially recommended. Visitors can enjoy the colorful and fantastic light art and the 10 million dollar night view at the same time.

Enjoy the Art

“Rokko Meets Art Art Walk” was launched in 2010 with the aim of introducing the appeal of contemporary art and Mt.

This annual art festival attracts many visitors with works by unique artists exhibited at various venues on Mt.Rokko.

Enjoy Nature

Mt.Rokko, you can see a variety of plants that take advantage of the unique climate on the mountain.

Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden, located near the summit of the mountain 865 meters above sea level, cultivates about 1,500 species of alpine plants, cold-weather plants, native Rokko plants, and wildflowers from around the world in a near-wild state.

Please enjoy the nature and flowers of the four seasons.

Enjoy Music

The Rokko Musical Box Museum & Garden MORINONE, which reopened in July 2021, offers visitors the opportunity to experience a variety of music in a natural setting.

The museum exhibits music boxes and other automatic musical instruments, and visitors can enjoy daily concerts and a music box assembly experience.

In the SHIKI Garden, which is in harmony with the nature of Mt. Rokko, visitors can enjoy sound exhibits here and there along with seasonal scenery.

Enjoy a relaxing day away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Enjoy Activities

Mt.Rokko is home to one of Japan’s largest athletic facilities: the Rokko Athletic Park GREENIA, which opened in 2021.

There are 164 athletic facilities on land, water, and in the air, supervised by the popular video creator “Fishers”.

There are various levels of athletic activities for all ages and physical fitness levels.

Enjoy winter sports

Mt.Rokko, you can also enjoy winter sports at the man-made ski resort that opens from December to March every year.

Rokko Snow Park opened as the first artificial snow ski resort in Japan.

It is close to the city and has a wide range of rentals available, so you can easily use it without any supplies.

In addition to ski and snowboard slopes, there is also an area dedicated to snow sledding and snow play, making it safe for children.

Mt.Rokko offers a wide variety of experiences.

While it is nice to spend a whole day at a single facility, travel schedules are often limited.

The Rokko Sanjo Bus allows you to visit various facilities efficiently.

Mt.Rokko is also responding to the needs of the increasing number of Muslim tourists visiting Japan.

Rokko Snow Park, which is open only during the winter season, has set up a prayer hall for Muslims, and has prepared a “non-pork, non-alcohol” Halal food menu at its restaurant.
