Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street, known as Japan’s longest shopping arcade, stretches approximately 2.6 km and is lined with about 800 stores, selling everything from food and fashion to household goods. It originated during the Edo period as a bustling town in front of Osaka Tenmangu Shrine, dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning. The shopping district took its current form in the Meiji era. Every year on July 24 and 25, the Tenjin Festival fills the area with parades, street stalls, and fireworks, attracting both locals and visitors. Additionally, from mid-February to early March, Osaka Tenmangu hosts a plum blossom festival, where approximately 100 plum trees of 20 varieties bloom beautifully within the shrine grounds.
