The castle was built in 1583 by Hideyoshi Toyotomi as his base for governing Japan. The Main Tower is surrounded by a charming moat and items associated with Hideyoshi and valuable historic documents from the Sengoku era are exhibited inside the castle.
Osaka Castle, an iconic landmark of the city, stands 55 meters tall with 5 stories and 8 floors. From the 8th-floor observation deck, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Osaka. The castle is wheelchair- and stroller-friendly, with elevators providing easy access to the main keep. Surrounding the castle is Osaka Castle Park, a popular leisure spot where locals enjoy the changing seasons. From January to March, the park is famous for its plum blossoms, boasting 105 varieties and 1,245 trees. Then, from late March to early April, it becomes one of Kansai’s top cherry blossom viewing spots, featuring around 3,000 cherry trees in full bloom.
