This is a Zen Buddhist temple that boasts one of the most prestigious styles in Kyoto. The entire precincts are designated as a national historic site. The national treasure “Sanmon Gate” is famous for the legend of Ishikawa Goemon of Kabuki “Sanmon Gosan no Kiri,” which is well known for the renowned line, “What a superb view!” The cherry blossoms in spring and the autumn leaves seen from the 22-meter-high tower are spectacular. “Suirokaku” is also used as a stage for movies and animation because of the unique beauty of the fusion of Japanese-style architecture and red brick arches, which allows you to feel the world of traditional Japanese “wabi-sabi” aesthetics, and is a photo spot visited by many people from all over the world.
