The Keage Incline near Nanzen-ji Temple is the site of what was once the world’s longest funicular at 582 meters in length. It was employed to carry the ships used to transport supplies on the Lake Biwa Canal up the slope. Cherry trees lining the railway bloom every year, creating a light pink tunnel through which you can walk while viewing the blossoms.
